Altar of Gore: Decibel Magazine Premieres “Carrion Womb; Litanies of the Unceasing Agonies LP Nears May 17th Release on Nameless Grave Records

Altar of Gore

Decibel Magazine is hosting a stream of “Carrion Womb,” the first preview of New Jersey death metal cult ALTAR OF GORE‘s second bloodsoaked opus Litanies Of The Unceasing Agonies, nearing May release on Nameless Grave Records.

Picking up where ALTAR OF GORE‘s Obscure & Obscene Gods left off, Litanies Of The Unceasing Agonies demonstrates how a band can refine its sound while simultaneously advancing it, delivering six hymns of carnage and wanton cruelty meant to batter the flesh and scar the mind into submission. No keyboards, no technicality, no decency, no humanity… ALTAR OF GORE is the primal urge to kill set to music. ALTAR OF GORE is having your skull bludgeoned by a heavy rock, repeatedly, forever.

As always, ALTAR OF GORE‘s output on Litanies Of The Unceasing Agonies – guitar, bass, drums, and vocals – is created by sole practitioner The Acolyte Of The Foul Ones, except for the guitar leads which are handled by Joe Aversario (Siege Column). Litanies Of The Unceasing Agonies was recorded at Studio D-10, New Brunswick, New Jersey, engineered and mixed by TG, and mastered by Dan Lowndes at Resonance Sound (Krieg, Drawn & Quartered, Witch Vomit), the album completed with artwork by Taylor Smith (Coven ‘Zine). Fans of Archgoat, Impetigo, Demoncy, and Mortician should heed the call of ALTAR OF GORE.

The Acolyte Of The Foul Ones reveals, “‘Carrion Womb’ describes the birthplace of the evil gods known as the Foul Ones, and opens side B. Some of the riffs therein have been floating around my head for over a decade now, so you can see how long some of this stuff has been festering.”

Decibel Magazine writes, “On its second album, Litanies Of The Unceasing Agonies, one-man black/death metal outfit ALTAR OF GORE strips death metal back to its rawest, purest form and revels in it… creator The Acolyte Of The Foul Ones eschewing keyboards and synthesizers, high production values and complex musicianship in favor of raw, crawling death metal.”

ALTAR OF GORE was founded by the Acolyte Of The Foul Ones in 2017. Fed up with the metal underground’s then-obsession with occultism, occult symbolism, and occult spirituality, the Acolyte sought to approach these themes from the profane world of flesh, blood, and bone rather than the lofty spiritual world. Musically, this was accomplished by channeling the primal energies of early Profanatica, Beherit, Demoncy, Impetigo, and Proclamation. The lyrics, heavily inspired by the deep worlds built in epic fantasy series such as the Malazan Book Of The Fallen and The Black Company detail the rites and practices of an obscure cult that practices human sacrifice for divination and power. The project debuted on New Jersey Metal Attack Vol. 2, one of the annual compilations released by Nihil Verum Nisi Mors, the collective that ALTAR OF GORE remains a part of to this day. The project’s eponymous demo was recorded shortly thereafter and released the following year on NVNM Productions.

2019 brought an opportunity to take the project to the stage. The Acolyte called upon close allies Joe Aversario and SSK of Siege Column to take up guitar duties, and Warhead of Abazagorath and Blasphematory to handle drums, and the band played its first and only show with Cerebral Rot and Fetid in Brooklyn. Concurrent with preparations for the gig was the recording of the project’s debut album Obscure & Obscene Gods, which was released in February of 2020 on cassette tape by NVNM Productions, and then issued on CD and LP in October of that year on Nameless Grave Records, who now prepares to deliver the second album, Litanies Of The Unceasing Agonies.
