After unleashing their debut album, Permanent Dawn, via M-Theory Audio last year to critical acclaim, followed by a special appearance at Decibel Magazine Metal & Beer Fest: Denver alongside Yob, Cirith Ungol, Pallbearer and more, death-grinders Earthburner have now announced a spring mini-tour for 2025! Dubbed the “Midwest Facelift”, the dates feature Indiana’s beatdown kings, Ran Thru, as support.
Earthburner‘s Jeremy Wagner (guitar) comments: “Earthburner is looking forward to blazing a trail of permanent damage across the Midwest with the badasses in Ran Thru in April. We’re starting out in our hometown of Chicago then playing our singer Devin Swank’s hometown of Columbus with Ringworm and others—then on to Detroit and Fort Wayne who are gonna get their dose of extreme noise when we hit those cities for the first time. It’s gonna be a blast (pun intended) and we can’t wait to see you all soon!!!”

Praise for Earthburner‘s Permanent Dawn:
“The songs here are precise and very technically polished, you can really feel all the members genuine love for grindcore throughout the record. Musically it sounds to me like a mix of Lock Up and some of those later Napalm Death records but with extended grooves and breakdowns. I’m sure seeing this band live would lead me to losing even more teeth.” – Gene Meyer, Decibel Magazine
*Permanent Dawn was also chosen as Decibel Magazine’s “Blast Worship’s Top 10 Grindcore/Powerviolence Albums of 2024”
“Fast, furious and focused, but resolutely punk as fuck, they have peeled away some of the sterile modernity that crept into the genre in the late ’90s and replaced it with an abundance of crust and filth. Largely comprised of short, fast and brutal songs, ‘Permanent Dawn’ is also subtly experimental, in the true tradition of early grindcore Fans of evil death metal will find plenty to enjoy too.” – Dom Lawson, Blabbermouth
“Earthburner‘s pedigree may be death metal to its core, but they bash out some pretty well-executed grind with ‘Permanent Dawn’. By keeping things simple, and the run time short and sweet, they maximize the impact, making ‘Permanent Dawn’ a nice surprise…” – Peter Atkinson, Metal Rules
“The music is a veritable buzzsaw, raw and rough – resembling the vintage Swedish death metal tonality—and delivered with vigor and velocity…making ‘Permanent Dawn’ a nice surprise that is certainly worth 22 minutes of your time. ‘Permanent Dawn’ offers a solid wink to the past without rooting itself there and a copious amount of fun. It’s scorchingly heavy and as devastating as one could expect from the genre and done with a pristine level of polish from some veteran players. With any hope, it won’t take nearly as long for a follow-up release.” – Katarina McGinn, Dead Rhetoric
“For me, music doesn’t get more brutal than this.” – Stig Ødegaard, Scream Magazine (Norway)
“What happens when you mix some Broken Hope, with some Gloryhole Guillotine and some Sanguisugabogg? Why, Earthburner of course! This is the crushing debut from this supergroup and it’s a short one, but it’s a solid one.” – Metal Injection“…gnarly death-grind…” – Brooklyn Vegan
About Earthburner
Earthburner® originally began as a new band for Broken Hope‘s Jeremy Wagner when Broken Hope’s “hibernation period” began in 2002.
Earthburner is named after the Broken Hope song of the same name (“Earth Burner” on the Grotesque Blessings album) and was created with a mission to deliver nothing short of uncompromising grind songs tinged with afterworld bleakness and contemporary horror.
Jeremy Wagner has actively written Earthburner music and demoed material in various studios since the band’s inception in 2002. It has remained his priority band and has successfully built up a worldwide following.
Earthburner solidified a lineup in 2011 with Jeremy Wagner on guitar and bass, Mike Miczek on drums, and Ryan Richards on vocals. The band recorded a 3-song EP in 2011 that they recorded at Mercenary Digital Studios with studio-guru, Scott Creekmore, tracking, mixing and mastering the entire EP—and the band made a music video for the track, “Total War,” directed by Corey Soria (Broken Hope, Danzig, Nita Strauss, Hollywood Undead, Act of Defiance, and more).
In late 2011, just as Earthburner was going to be Wagner’s priority band, Wagner was approached to reform Broken Hope. Broken Hope reformed with Wagner and Mike Miczek transitioning to the reformation. Earthburner remained a priority with Jeremy Wagner and Mike Miczek actively writing and recording Earthburner music, creating art designs for the band, and navigating when to properly focus on Earthburner when the time was right.
In March 2023, Wagner focused on Earthburner more than ever and recorded a full-length album and more. Jeremy Wagner and Mike Miczek added bandmembers to Earthburner and brought in Wagner’s stepson, Tyler Affinito, from Gloryhole Guillotine on bass.
Also, Ryan Richards parted from the band so Earthburner got Devin Swank on vocals…Tyler Affinito got a message from Sanguisugabogg vocalist, Devin Swank, asking Tyler if he wanted to do a “grind band” and also asked, “What’s your stepdad Jeremy doing with Earthburner?”
It was at that point that Jeremy, Mike, and Tyler wanted Devin Swank in their ranks and Devin enthusiastically agreed and joined the band.
Wagner, who had a pile of songs already written with Mike, booked studio time with the intent of recording a full-length album…within a month, the band began recording.
In April 2023, Earthburner entered the legendary Criteria Recording Studios in Miami, Florida where they recorded all of the music for their debut album, Permanent Dawn. The band then recorded all of the vocals at Hypercube Studios in Chicago. The band also brought in Napalm Death guitarist/vocalist, Mitch Harris, as an “honorary member” and side-vocalist.
*Earthburner were also honored by Ross Dolan of Immolation and Jake Cannavale of Vixen Maw who both contributed guest vocals to Earthburner‘s debut album.
Permanent Dawn was mixed by mixing-god Scott Creekmore (who had mixed both the Earthburner EP in 2011 and the Broken Hope album, Mutilated and Assimilated, in 2017), and then mastered by the legendary Mike Fuller of Fullersound in Davie, Florida.
Earthburner line-up:
Devin Swank – primary phlegm & guttural vocals
Jeremy Wagner – riff-wielder & guitars
Mike Miczek – caffeinated snare-killer & drums
Tyler Affinito – low-end psychopath, bassist, & NOT Billy Corgan
*Mitch Harris – back-up frenzied vocals & honorary Earthburner member
